E-Commerce Website Costs in 2026: A Practical Guide

An e-commerce website is not one feature. It is a connected system combining a storefront, checkout, administration, infrastructure and measurement. The price changes when the scope of any of these layers changes.

Our current packages use a two-part model: a one-time implementation fee and an optional monthly maintenance service. Prices remain denominated in TRY because Guezel Web Design serves the Turkish market; international customers should request a project-specific proposal.

What are you paying for?

1. Storefront: category pages, product search, product details, mobile usability and page speed.
2. Cart and checkout: baskets, coupons, payment-provider integration and order confirmation.
3. Management panel: products, stock, orders, campaigns and operational reporting.
4. Infrastructure: deployment, SSL, backups, monitoring and performance configuration.
5. Visibility: SEO-ready URLs, analytics and preparation for AI-search visibility.

The administration layer is especially important. A visually attractive shop becomes expensive to operate when everyday product and order tasks require developer support.

Hosted platform or custom development?

CriterionHosted platformCustom development
Initial costUsually lowerHigher one-time implementation cost
Ongoing costSubscription, apps and possible transaction feesHosting and maintenance
Source codeControlled by the platformControlled by the customer
Custom workflowsLimited by themes and extensionsDesigned around the business
IntegrationsDepends on available applicationsCan be developed directly
MigrationMay require rebuildingCan be moved between compatible servers

A hosted platform is often sensible for testing a small catalogue quickly. Custom development becomes more attractive when integrations, ownership, performance or specialist workflows matter more than the lowest entry cost.

Example package structure

PackageOne-time setupMonthly maintenanceTypical deliverySuitable for
Starter10,000 TRY1,500 TRYAround 10 daysA focused catalogue and standard checkout
Professional30,000 TRY2,500 TRYAround 20 daysMultiple categories, languages, variants and campaigns
Corporate50,000 TRY4,000 TRYAround 35 daysBranches, advanced reporting and integration preparation

These figures describe different scopes, not three prices for the same website. A corporate implementation requires more analysis, development and testing days.

Costs that are easy to overlook

- Payment-provider fees: paid to the payment company, independently of the website developer.
- Themes and extensions: hosted platforms may require several recurring applications.
- Product entry: preparing hundreds of images, descriptions and variants is a separate workload.
- Maintenance and security: updates, backups and monitoring continue after launch.
- Hosting: a custom application needs server resources appropriate to traffic and catalogue size.
- Measurement: reliable GA4, conversion and consent configuration may require a separate setup.

How to compare proposals

Ask every supplier for the same scope table. Confirm who owns the code and data, how many products are included, which integrations are covered, what happens after launch and which recurring costs are outside the proposal. Comparing headline prices without those answers is misleading.

Frequently asked questions

Is monthly maintenance mandatory?

No. Its purpose is to cover monitoring, backups, security updates and small corrections. With a custom system, ending maintenance does not automatically close the website because the customer owns the implementation.

How long does development take?

A focused implementation may take roughly ten days, while multi-language, multi-branch or integration-heavy projects can require several weeks. Discovery and content readiness affect the schedule.

Which model should a new business choose?

Use a hosted platform when speed and a minimal initial commitment are the main priorities. Choose custom development when ownership, differentiated workflows or long-term integration requirements justify the investment.
